The adductor pollicis muscle (m. adductor pollicis) lies deep in the palm. Its wide base arises from the palmar surface of the third metacarpal bone. The muscle then passes in front of the second intermetacarpal space and the second metacarpal bone, narrows, and attaches to the ulnar sesamoid bone and to the base of the proximal phalanx of the thumb.
